How to Remove ‘Get Converter Search’ Browser Hijacker

‘Get Converter Search’ is a hijacker that is currently infecting computers worldwide. Browser hijackers are the most widespread malware threats on the Internet, created for the purpose of modifying default internet and browser settings without the user’s consent. They are rather easy to fall prey to and can be hard to deal with, particularly since you’re most likely not even aware of them.

If you want to know more about this browser hijacking virus, we have got your back. Through this write-up, we offer a short course on ‘Get Converter Search’, what it is, its harmful impacts, and what to do to avoid it in the future.

What is ‘Get Converter Search’?

‘Get Converter Search’ is a fake search engine that is designed to replace the existing homepage and new URL tab of your computer by modifying the default browser settings. It does this to keep a track of your browsing activity and promotes various malicious toolbars and other potentially unwanted applications by redirecting you to various intrusive pop-up ads, fake software updates, and other luring offers/deals.

Following successful infiltration, it redirects search queries to getconvertersearch.com that further displays results provided by the Yahoo (search.yahoo.com) search engine.

The major purpose of hijackers such as this one is to promote adware so that creators of such infections could earn profit via a pay-per-click mechanism (PPC).

Common Symptoms of GetConverterSearch

If you have this hijacker installed on your computer, then you may experience the following symptoms or signs.

  • The search engine and home page of the default web browser is changed to getconvertersearch.com.
  • Frequent redirects to unsecured and inappropriate websites.
  • New tabs or window URLs redirect browser queries through fake web searchers.
  • Automatic download of executable (.exe) files from untrustworthy and obscure sources.
  • Bombards computer screens with malicious and deceptive advertisements, banners, online surveys, etc.

How to Avoid the Installation of GetConverterSearch Browser Hijacker

The vast majority of redirecting viruses come in the form of toolbars that are bundled with freeware that you download from the internet. Hence, to prevent the installation of such potentially unwanted applications (PUAs), you need to be a little bit more cautious while installing those free software from third-party sites.

In addition to this, you can try installing and running an anti-malware or antivirus software on the affected system to automatically identify and delete GetConverterSearch and other deadly malware threats.
