Are you unable to open/access images, multimedia, work documents, and other files on your computer system?  Are all the files stored on your computer system got the “.ZuCaNo” extension at the end of their names? Is the ZuCaNo ransomware virus is demanding ransom money in the form of Bitcoin cryptocurrency to unlock your files? Do you want to get rid of this ransomware-type infection and access your files without contacting or paying ransom money to the cyber crooks?

Read this guide to learn how to remove ZuCaNo ransomware infection and restore your encrypted files with alternative means.

What is ZuCaNo Ransomware?

ZuCaNo is the name of a malicious program designed to lock up users’ files stored on a machine by using encryption algorithms. Like Snoopdog, QSCX, Gamma, and other ransomware-type viruses, ZuCaNo hunts for the user’s system and personal files in order to extort a huge sum of ransom money later.

Immediately after invading the security vulnerable systems, this notorious infection starts to encrypt user files and appends them with the “.ZuCaNo” extension. For example, a file originally titled “image.jpg” will be renamed to “image.jpg.ZuCaNo”, a “document.docx” file to “document.docx.ZuCaNo”, “invoice.pdf” to “invoice.pdf.ZuCaNo”, and so on.

Once encryption is done, it displays a ransom note named “HOW TO DECRYPT FILES.txt” as a pop-up message whenever the compromised files are attempted to be accessed.

In most cases, ransom demanding messages inform the targeted users that all their files have been encrypted and the only way to unlock the files is to purchase a decryption tool/key from the ransomware authors.

How Does ZuCaNo Ransomware Infect Your Computer?

Ransomware viruses and other malicious programs are often distributed by hackers using a wide range of techniques. Some of the most popular ones include:

  • Spam email attachments
  • Malicious pop-ups, banner ads, deals, survey links, etc.
  • Phishing and torrent websites
  • Questionable third-party download channels
  • Software cracking tools
  • Pornographic or free file hosting websites

How to Remove ZuCaNo Ransomware from PC?

You need to delete this ransomware infection before proceeding to restore encrypted files. The best way to do so is to perform a full system scan using a dedicated antivirus or anti-malware solution. After the ransomware virus is removed, you can either use your backup files or a reputable third-party data recovery program to restore the encrypted files.
